RE: What to buy based on this set of needs?

08 Navigator on Ebay for $350K. Not the best deal I've seen at 39% off. Recently there was a 07 Monaco Exe on Ebay that had a buy it now of $289K but the highest bid was only $225. It has not been relisted so someone probably bought it for $275 which would be right at 50% of MSRP. Even before this slow down you could buy new at 25+% off MSRP. I'd buy used as there area lot of nice used units and many on here can tell you about the "New MH Blues" and all the problems they've had with their new MH. Hopefully you live in NH with no sales tax. Don't let anypne steer you into anything less than 40" with a tag. Having started at 36', then 40' and now 42' I built my MH bay long enough to hold a 45'. I costs money and time to trade so buy more MH than you think you need???:W Guess 45' is the most:S *Off subject pictures of my MH Bay big enough for a 45'.

RE: What to buy based on this set of needs?

What kind of car do you drive? If it's a Caddy or Town Car almost any tag axle coach will do. If you drive a MB or BMW then you will like the handling of the RR10S suspension in the Monaco products... Beaver, Holiday Rambler, Safari, & Monaco. I put in two 13 hour days getting from GA to CO and would do another as that is how well behaved a RR10S drives. It's a buyer's market and 50% of MSRP is possible on a 07 used DP. Would recomend you read some of Johnny T's posts on buying First time buyer or FAQ He is the moderator of the Class A forum and does a great job of keeping us in line. The Search box at the top of the page is a good place to start searching for CCC, RR10S, Aqua Hot, residential refrigerator, total electric, AGM batteries,IFS,& 20K should help. Welcome and a lot of good free advice on here, most of the time.

RE: Current fuel in GA and NC

Plenty of diesel at $4.09 in Blairsville GA. Went to Akin SC last week and paid $3.75 there for diesel, same as gas. Only place that had lines was Cleveland GA. At Commerce GA and I-85 there were no bagged pumps. "Don't worry, Be happy!"

RE: Furnace Problems ??

Bob, try running all of your stove burners to see if you have enough propane pressure while trying to get a furnace to work. Not real scientific but should give you some idea of the pressure. There is a shutoff solinoid valve in the system that may be faulty or is not getting the 12V that opens it. Could be your propane leak detector. Hope this helps.

RE: need help on used class A

That vintage Bearer has a loyal following for the quality and dependability. Beaver's are noted of the quality wood work. Water leaks were not a issue and most have alum frames under the outside skin. At $25K there is not much down side other than it may need new tires. MH tires often start giving trouble after 6-7 years old. Mine had a L shaped kitchen/living rm with the sofa facing the front which gave a good view out the front and sides. 30K

RE: need help on used class A

I owned a 94 Contessa with a single windshield, with a good looking paint job and great wood work. You would never have guessed it was that old looking at it. It was a very trouble free DP with a Cummings 8.3/300HP/6sp Allison and exhaust brake. Traded it for a 98 Beaver Patriot. Three things come to mind,,, The generator was not enclosed and nosier than the newer quite enclosed generators. It was very drafty up front and in cold or hot weather you felt it as it only had single pane windows. It had the RR4R four air bag suspension which is OK but not in the league of the Patriot with the RR8R. You should be able to buy it for less than $25K as you can buy a 97 Patriot without a slide and the RR8R for less than $40K. Prices are comming down fast and NADA low retail without any options is on the high side of what you should pay. It's a buyer's market so take your time and buy more MH than you think you need, like a good used DP so you will not be trading up later. $40K Monaco 1999 on Ebay. 7.5 quite diesel and single slide.

RE: Brakes are locked

Block the wheels and release the parking brake. Take a small chisel and drive it in at the end of the brake shoe between the drum and the lining. Yes, it's going to mess up 1'4" of the corner of the bake lining but that will not hurt anything. Doing one side is probably enough as then you should be able rock the other side loose. Sounds like you have used enough power and at some point you could ring the drive shaft.

RE: 12 volt Electrical Problem

As usual, good advice from Brett. If you find it is a bad solenoid you might want to unkook the battery before you replace the solenoid as it's amazing how good a welder 12V can be when you short it to ground.

RE: MUST DO -- when buying new or used

I went with a tag axle DP because I've been fined for being over 20K lbs - not in my MH. I've said many times I'm not sure what's so special about us RVer's that we think the weight laws do not apply to us. Granted I've never been stopped and weighed by DOT and I glad there is weak enforcement but that does not make it legal. Hopefully when I am stopped he will not look up and see that I am 9.4' wide because of the slide out awning covers on both sides. Hard to say they are safety items, but maybe they will break away. It took repeated weighings and shifting of cargo to get my drive axle at 20K without overloading the front axle. Still have plenty of CCC but would have to hang it off the back to use all of the CCC.

RE: Why is this 2008 DP so cheap?

They also have a Coachman 383fws Cross Country for sale. Looks like they are a Coachman dealer. 32% may sound like a good deal but unfortunately in a deflationary market no telling where the low will go.

RE: West Yellowstone

A friend stayed there this summer and said it was worth the $52/night.

RE: Yep...Another Battery Question

AGM's are not that expensive and should last 2 or 3 times longer BUT you have to lower the charging voltage from the solar charger which is doable, but doubt your cheap TT charger is adjustable so 2 Sam's 6V golf cart batteries would be my first choice as you can replace the water that will be boiled out.

RE: Does anyone know what this is?

Made my own out of a 1 1/2" air cylinder that I attach to the brake pedal with a loop of rope. Cost more to run the air lines as I had the air cylinder.

RE: Thinking about buying an 2004 Travel Supreme

Not sure what the "Right Price" is these days. I spend way too much time watching DP prices as I'm not looking to buy. Recently on Ebay a 04 Dynasty like mine -MSRP of over $360K did not sell and the highest bid was $140K which is over 60% off of original MSRP. A 07 45' Monaco EXE -MSRP well over $500K did not sell with a high bid of $225K or less than 1/2 of MSRP. It had 12K miles and every option you could add and the reserve was $289K. It seems like every week the right price is a lot lower. I would not be afraid of buying a orphan but at what price is the question and how much is a good extended warranty going to cost?

RE: Interesting development - Shortage of used Class "A"s??

It's all about supply and demand. Maybe the supply is decreasing - fewer new units, but more used units for sale??? The demand is definitely not increasing and will not until the cost of fuel comes down. You better hope some sanity comes to our Congress and instead of trying to find the perfect solution to the energy problem which is them, we start drilling where there is oil. For those of you worried about oil increasing CO2 you might want to read some differing opinions on global warming and the real possibility of the coming mini ice age. This is some of what I was reading this AM or Solar cycle 24? Even the Farmer's Almanac says we are in for colder weather.:W

RE: Catapillar or Cummins

From 1994 till 2004 I agree it makes no difference. 2004 to 2007 I'd lean towards Cummins but a Cat would be OK if the DW liked the floorplan with the Cat. 2007 and later Cummins is the only way to go as to many problems with Cat's Acert engines.

RE: Chassis GCVWR

NO you do not have 2000 more lbs of CCC than what the sticker says.

RE: Pad Advice

I just put in a concrete road 1400'x18' because it cost the same as doing it in compacted rock and asphalt. The concrete is 5" thick except at the edges where it is 6" for one foot. Every 10' we sawed it 2" deep to control where it will crack. Do yourself a favor and go with concrete even at $100/yard,3600PSI,with fiber and less than 0.90/square foot to form and place.

RE: Motorhome manueverability

"I guess no one will tackle the geometrics??" Not sure this is tackling your question as the amount of wheel cut is more important than the geometry or wheel base. Fortunately most newer MH's have 50 degree or more so the turning radius is much better than my 10 wheel dump truck that is only 38' long. It probably only has 35 degrees of cut and takes up as much room as my 42' DP to turn around. Is your Duramax a 4x4 as they do not turn as well as a 2x4 and what is the angle of the PU to the trailer in a maximum turn? I'm pretty sure it will be more than 55 degrees as my PU/5er will turn around better than my DP. The wheel base of your trailer is more likely 308-30=278 which is to the center of the axles... so my conclusion is the PU/5er will have a better turning radius plus it's easier to back up several times to increase the turning radius. I've even had my 5er go backward when the PU was more than 90 degrees to the trailer.
